H-F Youth Hockey Team Tops League

Flossmoor, IL (April 5, 2006) -- The Homewood-Flossmoor Ice Arena is proud to announce that its H-F Vikings Squirt Black Team and H-F Vikings Bantam White Team were both awarded championship cups in the South Suburban House league 2005/2006. The squirt team features players ages 8 to 10; the bantam team's players are ages 12 to 14.

"This year we had all of our teams in competitive races for the ultimate title as champs, and we even had all three of our squirt division teams battling for the first-place prize," said Chuck Koen, youth hockey coordinator.

The championship games — held on Sunday, March 26, at the Oak Lawn Park District Ice Arena — both ended in dramatic overtime fashion, according to Koen. After scoreless 4-minute overtime periods, both teams entered into three-man shoot outs during the final games.

"If you can believe it or not, with friends, family members and others clutching their hands together and holding their breath, both H-F teams went on to win their respective championship games with a 2-0 score in the shootouts," said Koen.

Players on the H-F Vikings Squirt Black Team are: Arielle Bergeron, Jake Dillman, Collin Freeman, Trevor Haynes, Vincent Kesic, Thaine Koen, Nicholas Krainik, Madeline Marks, Robert Mazzaro, Tyler Mehay, Christopher Siegrist, Jordan Triemstra, Craig Zavesky and Garrett Zavesky. They are coached by Kevin Dillman, Joel Triemstra and Chuck Koen.

Players on the H-F Vikings Bantam White Team are: Scott Austin, Andrew Banach, Jabari Beckley, Stephen Borkowski, Jacob Eustace, Connor Gavin, Aaron Hauge, Kenneth Hopman, Andrew Johnson, Kevin Krol, Bryan Lauer, Thomas Merkelis, Matthew Milcarek, Nick Opyd, Anthony Sorenson, Dylan Spratt and Kyle Wargo. They are coached by Mark Opyd and Kevin Gavin.
