Tyra Coleman



Tyra is looking forward to working with the teachers, parents and students to make this a phenomenal school year.
After receiving her B.S. in Early Childhood Education from Chicago State University she began teaching kindergarten in School District 162.  Tyra has also taught Head Start and preschool.  She is a longtime educator who believes education should be interactive, engaging and fun.  Her passion is help students learn to love and enjoy reading.   She loves to work with parents to create fun activities to do at home that encourage early literacy skills.  In her spare time she enjoys reading, bike riding and traveling.

2011/2012 THE LEARNING TREE PRESCHOOL

For more than 35 years, the H-F Park District has been providing an introduction to school for the littlest learners. Our caring instructors combine a learning-through-play philosophy and a well-rounded curriculum. Preschool is held at the Irwin Community Center. Call 708-957-PARK to set up a time with our staff to visit our Preschool classrooms!

Note: Registration must be made in person. A photocopy of child’s birth certificate is required at registration, along with a $50 non-refundable and non-transferable deposit. There is a 10% discount for second child with lesser fee. Payment plans may be available for tuition. For more info, please call 708-957-PARK.

WILLOWS: Age 2
Your child will be nurtured while learning to cope with separation. Class includes an introduction to group interaction. Hands-on activities will foster learning while exploring. Gross-motor skills will be developed through indoor and outdoor activities. Children must be age 2 by Sept. 1, 2011.

GINKGOS: Age 3
Your child will learn to play with others and participate in group activities. Independence is encouraged through mastering self-help skills. Group times — consisting of calendar, weather, music and storytime — are longer as we strive to lengthen attention spans. Shapes, colors, numbers and letters are introduced. Fine-motor activities become part of the daily schedule. Activities take place indoors and outdoors, including walks to Irwin Park! Children must be age 3 by Sept. 1, 2011, and they must be potty trained.

OAKS: Ages 4 & 5
Social, intellectual, physical and emotional growth are promoted in group situations. Teachers will encourage social and listening habits, and help children express themselves through music, art and motor skills. Basic skills — such as scissor work, pencil control, name writing, alphabet, address and phone numbers — will prepare them for kindergarten. Your child will be involved in science, math, language and kindergarten readiness skills. Spanish, cooking, computers, trips and creative play will be part of the curriculum. Children must be 4 by Sept. 1, 2011, and they must be potty trained.
